The Cambridge Glass Company opened its doors for business in Cambridge, Ohio in 1901. They were the front runners in production of colored glassware and their excellent glass quality, design and workmanship ranked Cambridge table and dinnerware of this period among the best being made. In the 1920's and 1930's they were possibly the largest producer of handmade glassware. Some of the most well known and popular of their many patterns are: Apple Blossom, Candlelight, Caprice, Cascade, Chantilly, Cleo, Daffodil, Decagon, Diane, Elaine, Gloria, Imperial Hunt Scene, Marjorie, Mt. Vernon, Portia, Rosalie, Rose Point, Square, Tally Ho, Valencia and Wildflower. In the 1920's their trademark C in a triangle came into being and their well known figural shapes used on stems and flower frogs began. Due to lessening demand for handmade glassware and increasing foreign competition, Cambridge closed its doors in 1954. They reopened in 1955 for a brief period under new ownership but closed forever in 1958. The Cambridge molds were later purchased by the Imperial Glass Co. which closed in 1984. Many of the molds then were purchased by the National Cambridge Collectors along with all of the etching/decorating plates.
