The Imperial Glass Company first fired their glass furnaces in Bellaire, OH in 1904. Today, Imperial Glass is practically synonomous with Candlewick which is by far their best known pattern. Outside of this, Imperial is known for their Carnival Glass and some of their Depression Glass patterns. Imperial did file for bankruptcy in 1931 and closed briefly but they were reorganized and started afresh in 1932 as the Imperial Glass Corporation. Through the introduction of the Cape Cod and Candlewick patterns and later their slag glass lines, Imperial enjoyed a renewed life. Hard times befell Imperial again and they were bought by Lenox, Inc. in 1972. They continued to decline under the ownership of Lenox who sold them in 1981. After changing hands again in 1982 they were forced into bankruptcy for a second time and closed their doors permanently in 1984.
